White sage is native to California and harvested by hand. The product is not only dried, but also raw.

About our White Sage Smudges: Smudge (literally: smoking fire) in sticks or bundles is an all-natural ceremonial incense used by Native Americans, such as in sweat houses.

Doctors, therapists and body care professionals are beginning to discover the beneficial effects of this drug. Incense bundles are used all over the world to reconnect with the power of nature. It is possible that the use of smoking plants and resins originated in ancient times, when lighting fires in caves. The ceremony of purifying people, places and attributes with smoke is still performed today. In addition, the smoke (smuge) of certain plants proved not only useful for driving away annoying flying insects, but also for preserving foodstuffs and skins. Finally, certain species of smoke were used as protection against invisible ghosts and thoughts.

To apply these protective and healing effects, the leaves and resin were burned to create smoke. With large feathers, this smoke was then used to stroke a person or object. In addition, the smoke of certain plants was used in healing practices, while the smoke of other plants was used for their more general properties.

Smudge smoke was created by placing dried herbs or herbs on smoldering coals, or by burning dried herbs in a ceramic bowl or large shell.

White sage is burned during ceremonies to ward off evil spirits, negative thoughts or influences. The leaves are famous for their unusual smell and are used as a natural repellent against moths (in clothes) or mosquitoes (in the room).

White sage can be used in many ways. Native Americans in Central America covered sweat house floors with white sage. In addition, they inhale white sage using a small bundle, or sometimes smear it on their bodies when in a sweat house. They claim that white sage makes evil spirits sick. If white sage is burned, it drives out evil spirits. Good spirits are negatively affected by smoke; they enjoy sage.
